My Work
I have always been inspired by textures and forms in the landscape and seashore, especially the chalk cliffs and flint seams found locally.
My current work is stoneware. I use layers of silicon carbide slip with feldspathic glaze contrasting with coloured or neutral slips to organise elements into strata layering and striping.
Surface results depend on thickness of glaze and heat in kiln to react together, fired to 1240 degrees in an electric kiln; usually predictable results but exciting surprise when happy accidents occur.
I make a range of forms, bowls, bottles and lidded pots using different ways of making, wheel thrown and handbuilding using grogged and smooth clay.
